ELM Research Lab is an independent research lab that examines how English grammar is explained in learning materials.
The lab focuses particularly on grammatical points that learners—especially Japanese learners—often find difficult to understand or insufficiently explained. By closely analyzing examples found in teaching materials, the research seeks to clarify the reasoning behind grammatical explanations and the patterns that underlie them.
The conceptual perspective guiding this work is outlined in the Philosophy section. The studies presented in the Research section demonstrate how this perspective is applied to specific grammatical phenomena.
